Flower Mart

Flower Mart at Mount Vernon Place took place on May 3 & 4, 2019!

This year, for the first time, the annual Flower Mart festival was managed by the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy. The Conservancy was formed to enter into a public/private partnership with the City of Baltimore to restore and maintain the Washington Monument and the parks squares of Mount Vernon Place.

With its long history, Flower Mart is part of the traditions of Mount Vernon Place, and the oldest ongoing festival in the city of Baltimore. When it was begun in 1911 it was mounted to encourage home gardens, with the planting of flowers and vegetables, as well as to encourage growing these plants on vacant lots in the city. The Conservancy revived that relevant mission in putting on this year’s festival.

Free Educational Lectures and Workshops, and the Lemon Stick Lounge

We were pleased and honored to have offered a series of educational workshops and lectures on themes relating to the greening of the city, and flower and plants.  The lectures explored the value of bee-keeping, urban farming, garden maintenance,  and other topics, while hands-on workshops offered participants the opportunity to learn how to make a bee-friendly container garden, a floral arrangement. At 6:00 PM each day the tent became the Lemon Stick Lounge with music and a special cocktail created by Hotel Revival.
