Family Traditions

February 3rd, 2021

After moving to Baltimore in 1963, from a small town in Kentucky, a sweet neighbor told me about the Flower Mart! I went that first year and fell in love with the flowers, the hats, the people, the crab cakes, the stalls, but most of all, the lemon sticks!! From that year on, everyone who knew me, knew where to find me on the first Wednesday in May!! I would take my kids out of school to go and experience it, writing excuses for them telling their teachers what they would learn on their family field trip!! Many years passed, we moved far away in years and miles, but in 2010, I came back for a visit! The Flower Mart had been moved to the first Friday in May and I was thrilled when three of my children, who are teachers, took me on a Family Field Trip, along with their spouses and children, all of whom had to have excuses for missing work and school that perfect day in May at the famous Baltimore Flower Mart!! What a blessed old lady I am to have such a loving family who know how to keep family traditions!!
