Summer in the Squares: Fourth of July Concert and Picnic!

July 4 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Summer in the Squares presents: Fourth of July Concert and Picnic!

Join us for music and refreshments as we celebrate Independence Day with two Baltimore-based ensembles, each representing an iconic genre in the history of American music. We are thrilled to present both of these artists after their stunning performances at this spring’s Flower Mart. To give you time to get to your favorite fireworks, the performance will begin an hour early, at 6:00.

Ghost Sugar
Bluegrass ensemble “Ghost Sugar” is a group of four young, talented musicians from the Baltimore area. The band is led by Alani Sugar on fiddle. The band consists of Taka Morishita on guitar, Shio Morishita on bass, and Matthew Zuckerman on dobro. Ghost Sugar came together from Alani’s desire to play in a group, so she pulled from talented members of the community that she met at a jam in Baltimore. Audiences will be sure to enjoy their tight, driving, bluegrass sound with exciting fast instrumentals, and beautiful slow melodies. With a perfect balance of traditional bluegrass standards and creative arrangements, the music of Ghost Sugar is interesting and compelling to the ear.

Brandon Woody’s Upendo
A proud alum of the Baltimore School for the Arts and the Peabody Youth Orchestra, trumpeter Brandon Woody leads his ensemble, Upendo, in a set of classic and contemporary jazz.

Come listen to these excellent ensembles and enjoy a summer picnic in the west square of Mount Vernon Place.
