Rescheduled: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

September 20, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Rescheduled from rained-out Movie Night on July 5, 2017:

In honor of the 4th of July, the Conservancy is holding a special screening of MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON (1939), a classic film about American democracy and hometown heart rarely seen on the big screen.

In this beautifully crafted movie directed by Frank Capra, scrappy and idealistic Mr. Jefferson Smith (Jimmy Stewart) is appointed to the United States Senate, where he encounters crooked politicians, wisecracking staffers, and a plan to destroy a beloved creek in his home state. Watch Mr. Smith stage one of cinematic history’s greatest filibusters and enjoy FREE popcorn with the Conservancy and its neighbors Wednesday September 20 in Mount Vernon Place’s natural amphitheater: the East Square.

Bring your own blanket or lawn chair, friends, and comestibles!
